Visually, the external appearance is more than acceptable, and even internally,is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of it's 60+ year-old age and nature], i.e. a dustwrapped children's book. It is only the minimal faults described that prevent a slightly higher grading overall. Despite that,it really is still an exemplary example for it's lack of other age-acquired detracting faults commonly encountered in a chidren's book of its age. The fairy stories gathered by the brothers Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm are favourite, indeed indispensable, reading for all children.Amabel Williams-Eliis is well-known for her skil in re-telling for young children the great stories of the world, and here she has made a discriminating choice from the Grimm brother's comprehensive collection and written,in her customary fluent and direct style,a new edition which must surely please a new generation of readers. Notes on the sources and history of the stories are included, and add to this edition's value for all those who are interested in European folklore.
